Vertrel™ XF Specialty Fluid

A Fluid Designed for Specialty Applications

Vertrel™ XF specialty fluid is a proprietary hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) fluid with zero ozone-depletion potential (ODP). Vertrel™ XF is ideally suited for use in co-solvent systems and vapor degreasing equipment for cleaning, rinsing, and drying. It also is ideally suited for many specialty applications, including as a particulate cleaner, fluorocarbon lubricant or adhesive carrier, heat transfer fluid, and dielectric fluid. It has wide use in medical, electronics, aerospace, and industrial manufacturing applications.

Features and Benefits

Vertrel™ XF has:

  • Zero ozone depletion potential (ODP)
  • Nonflammable
  • Solubility with a range of organic and fluorinated solvents
  • An ability to be enhanced with additional components to form azeotropes designed for cleaning
  • Low viscosity, low surface tension, and high density to penetrate tight or hard to reach spaces
  • Safe for use
  • Chemical and thermal stability
  • Compatibility with most metals, plastics, and elastomers

Vertrel™ XF can replace hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) and perfluorocarbon (PFC) fluids in most applications. Vertrel™ XF forms the base for most of the Vertrel™ product line.

Flammability and Toxicity

Vertrel™ XF is nonflammable and does not become flammable during boiling or evaporation. It exhibits no open- or closed-cup flash point, and is not classified as a flammable liquid by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) or Department of Transportation (DOT). It is thermally stable to 300 °C (572 °F) and does not oxidize or degrade during storage. Vertrel™ XF has passed the LOX impact test (NHB 8060.1) and is listed by the Compressed Gas Association, Inc (CGA) in the Directory of Cleaning Agents for Oxygen Services and in ASTM G93: "Standard Practice for Cleaning Methods and Cleanliness Levels for Material and Equipment Used in Oxygen-Enriched Environments."

Vertrel™ XF is not classified for human health toxicity under Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling (GHS).

Vertrel™ XF is not included in the federal Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA Title III Section 313) list of toxic chemicals, and is not subject to SARA Title III (EPCRA) reporting requirements. For more information, please refer to the SDS and Vertrel™ XF Product Guide.

Environmental Properties

Vertrel™ XF has zero ozone depletion potential and is used extensively to replace CFC-113, methyl chloroform, HCFCs, and PFCs in several applications.

Vertrel™ XF (HFC 43-10mee) is exempt from classification as a volatile organic chemical (VOC) by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Vertrel™ XF is also VOC compliant under the California South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) regulations, which require VOC content less than 50 g/L of solvent. Vertrel™ XF is not a hazardous air pollutant (HAP) and is, therefore, not subject to regulations by the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP).

Vertrel™ XF (HFC-43-10mee) is subject to the Significant New Use Rule (SNUR, 40 CFR § 721.5645) and should only be used in the applications indicated in the Vertrel™ XF Safety Data Sheet regulatory section
